Ubuntu Linux

I have started using Ubuntu Linux 5.10 "Breezy Badger" in one of my workstations at the office. In so doing I have come across several issues of note that may help others in need. The first is that our machines reside behind a firewall here at the office and in order to get outside (via the internet) one must configure all internet based applications to use at least our http proxy. One tool often used by Ubuntu's Synaptic Package Manager is the command line tool wget. Wget has a configuration script in the /etc/ directory called wgetrc.

Modify /etc/wgetrc and enable all http/ftp proxies in order to have successful installs via Synaptic Package Manager.

Additionally in getting Flash to install correctly in Firefox 1.5 one must first install all the 'gsfont' packages. Perhaps not all of them but we all need more fonts in our lives so...

Thats it for now.
